The infamous Stepsister

Reading through some blogs recently, as often, I came across a much debated and rather amusing subject. The author seemed to be qiute against the whole idea of what is now called, quite comically ( I agree), Hinglish!

Hinglish, put in its own words, is 'hindi plus english'. Now, I somehow don't understand all this fuss! I mean, come on! What's wrong with us Indians spicing up the language a bit to our taste?
I agree its not the most correct form one would like to read, but it certainly has become the most appropriate form of conversation among us. Most of us don't even realise when we inevitably use it...and i think that's perfectly fine! We like it, we feel comfortable with it and we will use it, this infamous stepsister of the Queen's language!

So what if the Language doesn't recognise words like airdash, dicky, prepone, eve-teasing, optical, time-pass or stepney? It doesn't make Hinglish incorrect! Afterall, in a country like ours with hundreds of dialects, this is the only language that binds us together. We still use the standard English language in our schools, government offices and for all legal formalities. But what we speak is what we are, Indians! I wouldn't call Hinglish- Indian english, because that would imply that all indians use the form. I'd rather call it- English in India. Same thing? Well, but the latter makes me feel more comfortable!

Is the English language so prejudiced that it won't embrace any further evolution (yes, evolution!)? Cosider this, if the Americans can have their own American English, why can't a lot twice their size have their own Indian English? Infact, thanks to our soaring census figures, hinglish is well on its way to becoming the most widely used form of the language. So face it, O Mightiest of Languages, Hinglish cometh!
